The sports council of Dharanidhar University was formed in the year 2024 to identify sporting talents of students, to hon their skills in different sports and encourage active participation in various activities held at institution, district, state, national and international levels. To support students, the university has adequate sports infrastructure with designated playgrounds for kabaddi, khokho, football, cricket and courts for badminton, and well-equipped facilities for table tennis and other indoor games. Recently the university hosted multiple sports events. 1200 University students participated in Annual sports meet.
700 University students participated in Annual Athletic meet. The event comprised the following games: Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Kho Kho, Bad Minton, Kabaddi, Carrom, Chess and Table Tennis. Athletic meet comprising a gamut of events such as 1500m, 400m, 200m,100m run, Long jump, High jump, Discus throw, shotput have also been organised.
Currently the sports council is headed by Dr Sumantra Naik, Assistant Professor, Department of Odia.
