Department Of Political Science

The college was established in 1957 as Keonjhar Science College ,an Intermediate Science College and was granted affiliation by Utkal University.

The college was taken over by the Government of Odisha in 1962. On the opening of the college’s humanities courses in 1967, it was renamed as Keonjhar College. It introduced Hons at the BA/B.Sc. level in 1974.Teachings in the UG level started in the department in the same year. However PG teaching in the department started in 1980. During 1983–84, the institution was renamed after the revolutionary Dharanidhar Naik. In 1999 the college was affiliated with North Odisha University. Autonomous status was conferred to the college on 24 September 2004. It was accredited B++ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on 2 February 2006. The College was granted University status on 11 February 2023.

In our department, we are committed to fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the political processes that govern our world.

Vision

The Political Science Department aims to provide students with learning experiences and theoretical deftness that prepares them to understand political phenomena in all dimensions which is comparative and context sensitive. The learning experience will equip them to face the challenges of an increasingly complex job market and prepare them to become active and engaged citizens at the Local, National and International level .

Mission

  • To help students relate classroom instructions to the political processes beyond the classrooms and contribute to knowledge-building through a commitment to equity, inclusiveness, diversity and concern for the environment.
  • To conduct systematic and focused studies on questions that are pertinent to political ideas, institutions, processes and policies in India in a comparative and International context.
  • To familiarize students with the latest development in the discipline and enable them to acquire substantive knowledge of institutions and process of government that shape politics within and among Nations.
  • To train candidates to take up teaching, research careers and beyond.
