The Department of English, Dharanidhar University is dedicated to creating an academic atmosphere conducive to development of independent minds. It distinctly emphasises instilling humanistic values and critical thinking among its students. The courses have been designed keeping in mind attainment of academic excellence and its practical relevance. Being situated in a culturally rich region like Keonjhar, the department encourages its students and scholars to connect with its vibrant social milieu and tap into its underexplored literary heritage. We believe in teamwork and therefore actively seek to collaborate with other disciplines in order to take our academic journey forward.

Vision

The department aims to enable its students to engage with literature by situating it against larger contexts, and inculcate in them respect for human values and appreciation for cultural and linguistic diversity. It aspires to promote interdisciplinary learning through collaboration with various disciplines of humanities and social sciences. While keeping pace with advances made in different areas of knowledge we would make sure that local issues and concerns are paid adequate scholarly attention.

Mission

  • To enable students to explore regional literatures and cultures along with key areas of English studies.
  • To foster research on local milieu including tribal cultures, oral forms of literary expressions, local histories, literature relating to environment etc.
  • To create an archive of rare texts and train students to work with primary sources and not rely on derivative knowledge alone.
  • To collect and translate historically significant documents and works of literature.
